On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his most influential speech to civil rights leaders and tens of thousands of marchers at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Each year, students from Watkins Elementary recite Dr. King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where he once stood. It is a beautiful tradition for the school. This year the special commemoration, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Dr. King’s birthday, January 15 at 1PM.
All Watkins students will take part in the trip. Cluster families and friends are also invited to join them for this special event. For questions or media inquiries, please contact Assistant Principal Tanya Thompson at tanya.thomson@dc.gov.
